So, why Example22?
Jun. 10th, 2002 02:11 pmWhy have I picked the most boring username imaginable?
Well, partly because I balk at the idea of trying to summarise myself in a single Deep And Interesting Word, partly because I quite like the idea of having a username that gives nothing away and looks like a leftover from a test run of the system, but mostly because of Laurie Anderson and Konstantin Raudive.
Konstantin Raudive was a slightly bonkers Latvian psychologist; he developed a method of listening to spirit voices by leaving a tape recorder running in an empty room. While nobody was around, the spirits would turn up in the room, whisper things into the mic and leave again -- LiveJournal from the Other Side, if you like.
His spirits, no matter how interesting and articulate they'd been in real life, had a habit of saying the most useless things to his recorder. For instance, Winston Churchill showed up and made possibly his least important speech ever: "Here, mark you, make believe my dear, yes".
Laurie Anderson is an American musician/songwriter/performance artist/storyteller who wrote most of my favourite music. She even wrote a song about Raudive voices; it's called "Example #22".
So there you have it.
