The reason there are no decent mid-priced restaurants in Birmingham city centre is that the entire population is physiologically addicted to Balti and very sensibly takes a cab/bus to Stoney Lane to get one there (the sums don't add up for balti houses in the city centre). Seriously, just head out to the balti triangle, go to Adils or whereever your cabbie recommends and have a mushroom/spinach/chana for me (some years ago our housemates drove up to Pebble Mill for a gig, and we ordered them to bring us back a takeaway - I can stil taste it in my mind, all the better for infusing on the motorway).
